The Beth A. Lucien Scholarship

Awarded to a student who shows strong empathy to others, achieves academic excellence, participates in multiple sports, or who may need financial assistance.

Beth Lucien was raised in Lynnfield and immediately made friends wherever she went. She had a magnanimous and infectious personality and people were drawn to her. Beth epitomized the well-rounded student-athlete, graduating from Lynnfield High School in 1989 with High Honors, as captain of the winter and spring track teams, a member of the varsity field hockey team, and a participant in many other clubs and organizations.

After graduating from Lynnfield High School, Beth attended the University of Michigan, where she majored in English and was a member of the honors program. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority as well as a True Blue Recruiter. Her first job after graduating from Michigan was as an Admissions Counselor at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston where she continued her passion for academics in guiding and evaluating prospective students on their admissions to Wentworth. Beth also received her MBA from Babson College in 1999, after which she worked in marketing for two startup companies. After settling in Melrose and starting a family here, Beth spent many years working for the City of Melrose as the assistant to Mayor Dolan before moving to Yarmouth, Maine for a period of time where she worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Principal at Yarmouth High School. Beth and her family moved back to Melrose as her children grew older, and she continued her love of educating and helping people while working at SDM Foundation in Melrose, helping clients improve their computer proficiency.

From a young age, Beth enjoyed running and continued this love throughout her adult life. She used that passion to again help people, raising money and running the Alaska marathon in support of the Leukemia Society of America as well as the Boston Marathon. Beth also inherited a love for comedy and had an incredibly witty and smart sense of humor, completing a stand-up comedy course in which she wrote and performed a stand-up comedy act, rivaling professional career comedians. Beth had many passions which included reading, exercising, socializing, learning and caring deeply about everyone she met. However, what she loved most was being a mother to her three amazing children and watching her children excel in school, sports and in their social lives, as kind, caring, sensitive people they continue to become.
