DAVID A. BINGHAM

THE P.F.C. DAVID A. BINGHAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP which you have received this year was established by his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Robert J. Bingham, his brothers Robert and Jeffrey, and his sisters Sandra and Margaret, all of whom are M.H.S. graduates. Friends and neighbors of the Bingham family also helped to establish the scholarship.

David graduated from Melrose High School in 1966, and after being employed by the City of Melrose, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1967. Upon completion of Basic Training at Parris Island, S.C. and a short leave at home, David was sent to Vietnam arriving there in November of 1967, It was at Con Thien, Vietnam, on January 2, 1968, that David was killed by enemy fire while on combat patrol,

As his parents recalled David’s youth, they noted he was very athletic and was active in all sports. It is with much pride they recollected that David was a catcher on three Little League Championship Baseball Teams and was a member of the football and hockey teams during his high school years.

In addition to this annual scholarship award, David’s memory was also honored in June of 1979 when the David A. Bingham Memorial Tennis Courts were dedicated at the Lincoln School where he once was a Student.

By giving his life in the service of his country at the age of 19, David made the ultimate sacrifice of which we all can be proud of, and grateful for. Although his time on earth was short, he touched many lives, and will continue to do so with this annual scholarship.

Therefore, this scholarship that has been awarded to you this year is a living tribute to the memory of David A. Bingham,

THE MELROSE HIGH SCHOOL PERMANENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND congratulates you upon receiving this memorial scholarship. The founders of this scholarship will always be interested in your plans and progress.
